Météo France has placed a large north-eastern quarter of France on orange snow and ice alert for this Saturday, January 4 from 8 p.m. Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin are among the departments which will be affected by this episode which is expected to last all night.
“The snow will first appear in the south of the regionspecifies Loïc Alter of Météo Suivi Alsace, around 8 p.m. But from 9 p.m., it will give way to freezing rain which will affect the Bas-Rhin around midnight, leaving in places layers of ice which could be 5 to 10 millimeters thick.
-It is obviously strongly recommended not to take your vehicle tonight. This weather episode occurs due to the meeting of two air masses: a cold air mass coming from the north and a rainy disturbance coming from the southwest.
“These air mass conflicts are becoming more and more common, confirms Loïc Alter again, and cause strong temperature variations from one day to the next, so we will go from -5 degrees this morning to +10 degrees tomorrow afternoon, phenomena that can be attributed to climate change.”
An episode strong enough for the prefectures of Bas-Rhin and Rhin to call in a press release for the vigilance of users and recommend avoiding driving on the roads and making it as easy as possible for road clearance vehicles to pass through.
