Rodrigo Garro, Argentine midfielder for Corinthians, was involved in a fatal accident with a motorcyclist in La Pampa, Argentina, his hometown, where he was vacationing shortly before his 27th birthday.

Garro, wearing the number 10 on his jersey, was detained at the scene of the accident which occurred around 2:30 a.m. His blood alcohol level was 0.5 grams per liter. It is believed he was returning from his birthday celebration.

According to information from Diario Olé and TycSports, police investigations revealed that the player’s car, a Dodge RAM, collided head-on with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man, on the spot. Garro and his passenger, Emelec player Facundo Castelli, escaped the incident without injuries.

The Clarin newspaper quotes prosecutor Francisco Cuenca, in charge of the investigation, indicating that the incident has been provisionally classified as “culpable homicide” pending a full analysis of the accident.

CNN Brazil also quotes another prosecutor, Armando Aguero, who refers to “aggravated culpable homicide” due to the presence of alcohol in Garro’s blood. Aguero clarified that there was no need for the player to remain detained, as he has shown no intention of fleeing, is a resident of the city where the accident took place, and has maintained contact with authorities since .

The prosecutor also confirmed to CNN that the motorcyclist was riding without a helmet and had drugs in his possession: “He was carrying cocaine, but it was not detected in his blood. »

Corinthians released a statement regarding the incident: “In the early hours of this Saturday, midfielder Rodrigo Garro was involved in an accident in La Pampa, Argentina, which unfortunately resulted in a death. Garro provided his first statements, was released and returned home. Club executive Fabinho Soldado and director of legal affairs Vinicius Cascone have contacted the player’s lawyers and family, and will maintain communication for further information.
