Lyon’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard stops in the semi-finals in Brisbane

Beaten in two sets by the American Reilly Opelka (6-3, 7-6 [4]), the tennis player will not play his third final on the circuit.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard’s great Australian adventure ended this Saturday. Opposed to Reilly Opelka, the 21-year-old Lyonnais, titled in Lyon and Basel last year, did not find the key against his 2.11 m opponent. Despite an attempt to return to 4-2 in the first set, where he obtained four break points, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard saw Opelka lock his serve and gain the upper hand.

In a more contested second set, both players held their faceoffs until the tie-break. A key moment where a double fault cost the Frenchman dearly, opening the way for Opelka, who concluded and advanced to the final. This will be a first for the American since 2022, a year marked by injuries which kept him away from the courts for two years.

Despite this defeat, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard can be satisfied with his performance and hope to confirm in the weeks to come.
