Drummer Mikkey Dee, a member of Scorpions and former Motörhead musician, has shared details of his battle with severe sepsis, revealing that he was close to death due to the bacterial infection.

A fierce fight against a severe infection

In an emotional post on Facebook, Mikkey Dee explained that he was hospitalized for three weeks because of the illness: “During this holiday season, I was hospitalized for a very serious blood infection (sepsis). I was admitted for three weeks, but now I’m home fighting the damn bacteria. Fortunately, I received fantastic care at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, my hometown. A huge thank you to all the doctors and nurses for their excellent work.”

The drummer also admitted to having undergone several operations, but he is delighted to see improvements: “After several procedures, I am now back home and the results are going in the right direction. However, I still have a lot of rehabilitation ahead of me.”

A critical situation

In an interview with the Swedish newspaper The evening paperMikkey Dee explained how his health problems began: a simple sprained foot in December quickly escalated. The musician underwent three emergency surgeries to remove dead and infected tissue.

Mikkey Dee described how close he was to death: “It wasn’t a good time. One more day and I would have been playing drums with Lemmy in heaven.”
