A fire breaks out in a premises, in the city center of Gien

Sixteen firefighters from the Gien and Coullons barracks were dispatched to the town center of Gien on Friday January 3, shortly after 11 a.m., to start a fire in a 15 m2 room. According to the fire chief, it was a trash fire.

On the second floor of the building there is an occupied apartment. However, the home did not suffer any damage. Firefighters still carried out several reconnaissance operations to ensure that no victims were inside the premises.

The co-owners are fed up

In front of the building, the co-ownership manager is annoyed, but hardly seems surprised by the situation. “It is a building well known to squatters, because vacant premises cannot find buyers. There are regular break-ins,” regrets the manager.

The event comes less than ten days after significant water damage, caused, according to him, by yet another intrusion. “The local authorities are aware of this problem. It would be good to increase surveillance around the building,” he suggests.

During the intervention, the municipal police were responsible for blocking traffic. The gendarmerie, as well as a team from Enedis, were also on site.
