The year is off to a bad start for Moroccans. They must face a new increase in the price of 12 kg gas cylinders. The Ministry of Economy and Finance should soon announce an increase of 10 dirhams, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. According to the Moroccan Association of Liquid Gas Distributors in Morocco, the measure will not be applied in January. It would also be unlikely that it would be implemented next February, which coincides with the holy month of Ramadan. Furthermore, a new and final increase is planned for 2026. It will concern an amount of 10 dirhams for a final sales price of 70 dirhams per 12 kg cylinder.

Since last year, the price of gas has started to increase as part of a gradual lifting of the butane gas subsidy, in order to reduce pressure on the Compensation Fund. This lifting took place last May, in order to free up financial resources as part of the implementation of the direct social assistance program. According to figures from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Morocco consumes 2.8 billion tonnes of gas each year, and the subsidy weighs 15 billion dirhams on the Compensation Fund. Currently, the real price of a 12 kg gas cylinder is 96 dirhams, of which 46.39 are borne by the State.
