Amir Somoggi is a sports marketing and management consultant.

In 2013 he published a study on Brazilian football clubs.

The report detailed the “clubs with the highest revenue from player transfers in Brazil”.

To compile this data, Somoggi’s company analyzed the financial reports of all the clubs mentioned.

Inter topped the list. From 2003 to 2013, the club accumulated revenue of R$482.3 million from player sales.

The second club, São Paulo, remained significantly behind Internacional, with R$333.3 million, almost 150 million less. Cruzeiro ranks third with R$298.5 million.

Grêmio came fifth, with R$190.9 million, almost 300 million less than Internacional.

Since 2006, the talented red and white player factory has produced talents like Pato, Nilmar, Rafael Sobis, Luiz Adriano, Walter, Taison and Leandro Damião. They have considerably filled the club’s coffers and helped the team win titles. During the club’s golden era, midfielders Oscar and Fred also contributed significantly to the finances.

It seems that Inter have rediscovered their status as “Celeiro de Ases” (Cradle of Aces).

The club recently announced the sale of Gabriel Carvalho to Al Qadisiyah.

The midfielder, who is only 17 years old, could bring the club up to R$136.3 million.

This includes approximately R$99.1 million in fixed costs and R$37.1 million in variables linked to performance objectives.

A fortune for a player who is far from being a superstar.

However, the best bank is actually Inter itself, located in Beira-Rio.

From the Internacional anthem: “It’s your red and white past / A reason for celebration in our hearts / Your present says it all / Bringing joyful emotions to the fans / Colorado from the nursery of aces / Your stars shine in an always blue sky / All of Brazil vibrates / With the people’s club of Rio Grande do Sul…”
