Michael Van Gerwen has delivered an X-rated verdict on his ruthless win over Chris Dobey.
Former three-time champion Van Gerwen was looking to reach his seventh PDC World Championship final at Ally Pally.
He faced Geordie powerhouse goalscorer Chris Dobey in a mouth-watering semi-final, with the opportunity to meet Luke Littler or Stephen Bunting in tomorrow’s final.
And the “Green Machine” once again showed its ruthless level by punishing Dobey, who was making his first appearance at this stage of the flagship tournament.
The Dutchman had suggested before the match that he needed to put pressure on his rival and that he could “do some damage” in the match if he did so.
He said: “The only thing you have to do is keep playing well,” MVG said.
“Dobey is a fantastic player but when you put him under pressure he can miss his shot.
“As long as you keep putting pressure on him, I can do some damage.”
And that’s exactly what he did with 46.15 percent of his double attempts with an average of 98.84.
He secured a 6-1 victory on the night and reached the seventh World Championship final of his illustrious career.
But it was his post-match interview that grabbed attention as he delivered an X-rated response to his performance.
He said during his post-match interview with Ciel Sports: “I can be happy with the performance. Of course, I didn’t play as explosively as I did in the last game.
“I am here with a mission, with a goal. In this context, you will always experience ups and downs.
“We’re not even close yet.” We are still so far away. The title is far away. This is what we must continue to tell ourselves.
“I want to keep fighting as long as I have everything in my body. It’s my life.
“But that can wait until tomorrow. I haven’t won everything yet. It’s going to be amazing.
“The crowd loves it, the people at home love it. These are top level darts.
“I can be satisfied with the performance. Of course, I didn’t play as explosively as in the last match, but I was effective.
“When I had to do things, I did it at the right time and that’s what you have to do if you want to win games.
“I love what I do, I love playing on this stage. It’s my passion, it’s my life – after family. I really enjoyed it.
Van Gerwen will now be making his seventh final in the competition and is aiming for his fourth Sid Waddell Trophy.
A victory in tomorrow night’s showpiece match would see him become a four-time champion.
It would also cement his status as the most successful player in the history of the sport behind Phil Taylor.
