“Hello, my name is Mary Malone and I'm an actress and artist from Suffolk raising money to support my gender affirming healthcare. This support will help keep me safe and move me forward in my transition journey.
The state of trans healthcare in the UK means I cannot access these life-changing and life-saving treatments through the NHS. For this reason, I ask for your support. I would be extremely grateful if you could contribute any amount to my fund, or support me through sharing.
Fundraising is the only option for many people, so give generously to those in need.

The Fangirls cast and crew praised Mary Malone's work
Through Malone's work in Hollywood, she has already earned praise and respect from those she has worked with.
Speaking with The Pink News about his work in I miss youher co-star Richard Armitage described working with her as “a revelation” while praising Malone for bringing more to his character in the series than in the book the series is based on:
“Working with Mary was a revelation. In the book, [Aqua] is a slightly less evolved character. [She] brings something incredible to a character you don't often see on television.
He noted how it was “an absolute pleasure to meet him” through their common experience, highlighting one of its particularly “heartbreaking:”
“It was an absolute pleasure getting to know her and chatting with her about her journey in life and drama. There's a scene in episode five where she's heartbreaking. So, kudos to Mary.
Writer Victoria Asare-Archer echoed these sentiments, explaining how differently her character was realized in 2024 compared to how she was originally written:
“This character was written over 10 years ago, and the way we portray transgender characters has evolved since then. We thought a lot about working with Mary Malone, the actress, and working with various groups to make sure that Aqua felt honest, truthful, sympathetic and sensitive.
Describe Malone as “wonderful,” Asare-Archer noted how the actress was “excellent for washing away darkness” during his appearance on screen:
“Obviously with all of Harlan's characters, dark things happen, but our job was to make it happen in a way that didn't feel exploitative and was true to the modern world. Mary was great in helping bring this to life. [She] It was wonderful, she would do the most intense and darkest scenes and then leave the set smiling. She was great at washing away the darkness in a way that felt very true to Aqua's character.
