A former poker professional was arrested last week and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm and firearm possession. Wayne County prosecutors allege that Craig Bergeron, of Saline, Michigan, fatally shot Tommy Ireland, 37, on December 23.

Authorities say Bergeron then fled the scene, but was later arrested by police. Few details are known about the crime, but police say Bergeron shot Ireland with a rifle at a home on Detroit's east side. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:40 p.m.

Police also allege he then assaulted someone in the town of St. Clair Shores after the alleged murder. The criminal charges against Bergeron indicate he has at least one criminal record.

The 35-year-old has over $1 million in live tournament winnings and has also won significantly in online poker under the name 'hu4rollz'. His poker record includes a fourth place in the WPT Hard Rock Seminole Showdown in 2012 for $212,976.

He also won a World Series of Poker Circuit ring in 2011. In 2010, Bergeron finished fourth in a European Poker Tour event for $312,853. However, he has not had money in a major tournament since 2019.

Friends and family came together to hold a vigil last Thursday evening in honor of Ireland. Ashley Ireland, the victim's sister, said the family didn't know Bergeron and had no idea why he might shoot her brother.

“We are looking for answers and we are looking for justice,” she said. CBS Detroit News. “We don’t know anything at the moment. »
