January 1, 2025, Las Vegas. An explosion rings out in front of the Trump International Hotel. It is a Tesla brand Cybertruck, whose owner Elon Musk appears closer than ever to the future 47th President of the United States.

The driver of the Cybertruck, Matthew Livelsberger, died instantly, while seven bystanders were injured. Authorities quickly identified the alleged perpetrator. He is a 37-year-old ex-military man from Colorado Springs, Colorado and based in Germany.

An anti-Trump profile

Matthew Livelsberger has served in the United States Army since 2006, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant in the Special Forces (Green Berets). According to military sources, he was on authorized leave at the time of the attack. A graduate of Norwich University, renowned for its military programs, he was known for his tactical skills and dedication.

However, disturbing elements have recently emerged in his personal life. Anti-Trump posts attributed to his wife, Sara Wilson Livelsberger, on social media, notably attracted the attention of investigators, although no direct link to the incident has been confirmed.

A prepared act?

The preliminary investigation reveals that the Tesla Cybertruck was rented via the Turo application. The latter was loaded with fireworks mortars, gasoline cans and camping fuel tanks, connected to a detonation system. This device leads to the planning track.

Is this a terrorist attack? The investigation shows that the driver caused the detonation by detonating explosives and cans of gasoline found in the back of the car. His motivations remain unknown. But for Tesla boss Elon Musk, Donald Trump’s right-hand man, there is no doubt. “The evil morons chose the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack”he wrote on his social network, X (formerly Twitter). “The Cybertruck contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards.”

The explosion came as the FBI is investigating another attack the same day in New Orleans, where a ram truck drove into a crowd, killing 15 people and injuring at least 35. The alleged perpetrator is believed to be a military veteran, according to initial information from the investigation communicated by the FBI. The two incidents have some similarities, notably in the use of vehicles rented through Turo. According to a local channel, the two soldiers also served on the same military base. However, there is no “irrefutable link” between the New Orleans attack and the Las Vegas attack, the FBI announced Thursday.
