The municipality of Sainte-Aurélie was shaken this Tuesday, December 31 by a devastating fire which reduced the community center, the Canada Post office, as well as the Le Maillon library to ashes.

According to initial reports, the fire started from a vehicle parked near the electric charging station before quickly spreading to the building. An investigation will have to determine the exact causes of this fire.

In a message addressed to the population, René Allen, mayor of Sainte-Aurélie, expressed his support for the community while announcing a clear intention to rebuild the community center.

The mayor also wanted to thank the firefighters of Sainte-Aurélie, Saint-Prosper and Saint-Zacharie for their remarkable work during this fire. He also welcomed the support of neighboring municipalities, in particular that of Alain Maheux, mayor of Saint-Prosper, and Samuel Poulin, deputy for Beauce-Sud, who both expressed their support for Sainte-Aurélie in this ordeal.

Despite the scale of the losses, René Allen remains resolute: “ The municipality’s intention is to proceed with the reconstruction of the community center. If I can be so affirmative, it is because we had planned to do a major renovation in 2026. » The renovation plans, already ready, will serve as the basis for the reconstruction, which will also incorporate a new library and a post office.

Beyond the infrastructure, it is a part of the collective memory of Sainte-Aurélie that disappeared in this fire. The archives, historical documents and contributions of the Farmers were destroyed. “ On site, I met volunteers unable to talk about their emotions, as their hearts were in their throats. », related the mayor.

According to him, the community center was much more than a building: it was a gathering place for families, a space for cultural and social activities, and a symbol of municipal life. “ All this must remain, continue. Together, we will rebuild », affirmed René Allen, calling for unity and solidarity to meet this challenge.
