Two children aged around ten were seriously injured on Wednesday January 1, following the explosion of a device in Butembo (North Kivu).

According to sources on site who cite relatives of the victims, these two victims lit the fire, causing the device to explode themselves.

Both of these children were admitted to a local medical facility for emergency care.

Questioned about their hospital beds by our colleagues from the voice of UCG/Butembo, these children indicated that it was a metal part picked up in a garage in Butembo.

In April 2023, panic reigned in the Saba cell, in the Kimbulu district in the commune of Bulengera in Butembo (North Kivu) following an alert on the presence of an explosive device in this part of the city.

Some residents had to abandon their homes to take refuge in other surrounding areas.

According to the head of the Kimbulu district, Sébastien Paluku Vasosene, it was not a grenade but rather a worn-out can from an already used explosive device which had been found in a ravine by passers-by.
