Will the Dow Jones show a bullish start to 2025 after a difficult end to 2024? By Investing.com

Investing.com – The stock ended 2024 slightly lower, falling 0.07% on December 31, the third consecutive session of decline.

Remember that the US indices did not experience an end-of-year rally, with valuations having already been pushed to new heights following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections at the beginning of November.

Furthermore, the last Fed meeting on December 18 cast a chill on the Dow Jones and the stock markets in general, while the central bank warned that it will lower its rates less than expected in 2025.

Regarding the values of the Dow Jones, we note that it was Nvidia (NASDAQ:) which posted the biggest fall on Tuesday, falling by 2.33%, while on the rise, they were Nike (NYSE:), Chevron (NYSE:) and Merck which stood out with declines of more than 1%.

Regarding upcoming events likely to impact the Dow Jones, Donald Trump’s economic and international policies will be the center of attention in the coming month, as he takes office at the end of January.

Mr. Trump has pledged to implement broadly expansionary policies, but also to impose high tariffs on the United States’ main trading partners, such as China, Canada and Mexico.

Uncertainty over Mr. Trump’s policies has prompted cautious investors in recent weeks, leading to profit-taking after Wall Street’s initial rally following Mr. Trump’s election victory earlier this month of November.

Investors also fear that Mr. Trump’s policies could keep inflation high in the long term, prompting the Fed to cut interest rates.

From a graphical point of view, we note that the profile of the Dow Jones is leaning towards the decline in daily data, facing an initial support at around 42,150 pts.

Below this threshold, it is then the November 4 low at $41,165 which will be the next potential support.

Finally, note that the Dow Jones is showing slight gains in the futures markets at the time of writing, which suggests a positive opening later this Thursday.
