Do you know about cosplay? It is a practice consisting of embodying (makeup, costume, accessories, personality) a pop culture character (films, series, manga, cartoons, video games) during dedicated events or simply out of passion.

Génération Multivers, an association based in Orléans () has made it its trademark in particular in order to visit hospitalized children and allow them to experience a magical moment.

In three years, Frédérick Boulage estimates that they have seen more than 1000 children during outings with the association. In his eyes, “the real superheroes are the children who fight against serious illnesses and transmit their energy to us” (©Multiverse Generation)

She was created in 2021 by Frédérick Boulage (42 years old), former soldier from Orléans and passionate about pop culture. After spending fifteen years in with his family, he returned to Orléans and discovered that there were no visits to hospitals for sick children.

“I have been a cosplayer since 2017 and originally, I was part of the 501st Legion, the largest association of Star Wars cosplayers,” he tells us.

The latter was founded more than 30 years ago by a man following the death of his daughter. Touched by the values of the structure, Frédérick decides to do the same in Orléans with the idea oforganize cosplayer events in hospitals for our little patients.

This is how the story of Generation Multiverse begins.

Many activities

Frédérick specifies that during this outing at the Orléans University Hospital, the association was accompanied by members of two other structures, namely CosUplay and Fur’Orléans. A way of bringing together other associations but also of presenting all the worlds (©Multiverse Generation)

Every year, the association organizes multiple events in the Loiret, the Centre-Val de region but also near Paris. In December 2024, cosplayers are went to meet the children from the Gustave Roussy Cancer Treatment Center in (Val-de-).

“Since these are children with cancer, we cannot offer them toys directly due to a hygiene problem,” explains the founder of Génération Multiverse.

To remedy this, the latter has been collaborating for two years with the dedicated association Les lutins du phoenix, which has a hygiene machine.

Génération Multiverse participated in the “Everyone wants to take their place” broadcasts on December 23 and 24, 2024 (filmed in advance). “Spectators brought back stuffed cows which were then sanitized by The Phoenix Elves to be given to the children,” adds Frédérick.

Cosplayers also animated the Kingtoy store in Chécy, during the day of December 7. “We thank them very much because we had a donation of 1,032 euros of toys that we were able to offer to the children of the Orléans University Hospital on December 18.”

During this outing, twenty members were present. They were accompanied by Shayvise, a TikToker from Orléans followed by more than 7M followers. Touched by what the association does, she decided to come in 2023 and returned in 2024, loaded with gifts.

His presence would also have given great pleasure to the hospitalized adolescents. A small victory for the association whose mission is to “de-dramatize the hospital thanks to this type of operation”.

On Saturdays December 14 and 21, 2024, Génération Multiverse was also present at Galeries Lafayette in Orléans with around ten members to offer makeup workshops to children. THE donations collected were then donated to the Pink Blouses association.

In total, these hospital outings would represent 130 hours of volunteering over three years. The association also participates in the Japan Expo, Paris Manga and other events.

Many future projects

Like the members of the association, Frédérick makes his own cosplays using a 3D printer. He is also in the process of improving his Batman armor by, for example, replacing the imitation leather parts with prints in order to give more volume to the final result (©Frédérick Boulage)

Frédérick is, among others, in discussion with the hospital to organize an outing there.

“I also have to send papers to the Robert Debré hospital in the 19th arrondissement of Paris to sign a three-year agreement to do entertainment,” he continues.

At the same time, he met the health executive in charge of the child psychiatry service at Romorantin-Lanthenay hospital (Loir-et-Cher). The idea? Offer something different to children who no longer trust adults because of past suffering.

In March 2025, Generation Multiverse will therefore come with its equipment (armor pieces to clean, prepare, paint, assemble, necessary tools, etc.) and show them how to make their own cosplay with a number of tips and materials.

Finally, the association plans to continue outings in company from The Elves of the Phoenix with which she has already made eight.
