At their meeting of delegates in December, the Young Liberal-Radicals proposed the introduction of registration fees in Switzerland, refundable after studies, reports the Tages-Anzeiger.
For the president of the Young Liberal-Radicals Jonas Lüthy, this proposal is a reaction to the fact that people who have studied at university or higher education institutions are increasingly working part-time. They thus earn less money than before and therefore pay less taxes, taxes supposed to indirectly finance higher education.

For Jonas Lüthy, reimbursement in accordance with the principle of causality could restore this balance.
The Young PLR also criticize students who interrupt their studies or change paths midway. They therefore adopted ten demands to change the situation. Concretely, they are calling for an obligation to reimburse after studies for people whose income tax is not enough to cover education costs.
-Proposal criticized
According to information from Tamedia, this proposal is strongly criticized by the left and sociologists of education. They see a risk of reinforcing social and gender inequalities, particularly for women, who are often forced to reduce their work rate to take care of children.
Discussions continue within the party to define how to bring this proposal into the political sphere.
