The title race promises to be exciting again this year. Frank Boeckx follows Belgian football closely. The former goalkeeper sees three title contenders in the Jupiler Pro League, but he is not ruling out one big name.
Genk, Club Brugge and the Union
KRC Genk, Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht form the top three. Surprisingly, Boeckx does not consider Anderlecht as a title contender. He gives a better rating to Union SG.
“As for KRC Genk, we still have to see what they will do during the winter break. But I guess they won’t let many executives go this time. In fact, I think they will get stronger and they will be in it until the end,” he commented.
Racing Genk may only buy an additional left-back, but it is possible that a corridor striker will arrive as well.
-“Club Brugge also has a solid core. He will play at least two more Champions League matches. Will it cost them league points? Will they be able to have another almost perfect run in the play-offs? », asks Boeckx at the Sporza microphone.
No Anderlecht?
And then there is Union SG. “The Union has been in a better position in recent years, but it could well do today what the Club did last year. I believe in this core, just like I believe in Genk and Club Brugge. Apart from these three teams, I don’t see anyone playing for the title. »
So no Anderlecht, and that’s surprising. While Jan Vertonghen, Mario Stroeykens and Thorgan Hazard return. With César Huerta, the club is also looking for another solid acquisition and a central defender or two.
