At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd in a tourist area of New Orleans, United States, authorities in the American city announced Wednesday. The attack occurred in the city’s historic and party district known as the French Quarter
The driver tried to run over the most people » possible during this vehicle ram attack, according to the police. Two police officers were then injured by bullets.
According to witnesses cited by CBS News, a truck drove into the crowd at “ high speed » before its driver jumped from the vehicle and fired a gun into the crowd, prompting a police response.
« We are responding to a mass casualty accident involving a vehicle that drove into a crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street », declared the city authority in charge of emergencies in a press release overnight.
-Emergency services did not specify the time of the incident, but the area was expected to be crowded with people celebrating New Year’s Eve in the historic and festive district known as French Quarter (French Quarter).
