At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd in a tourist area of New Orleans, authorities in the American city announced Wednesday, January 1.
“We are responding to a accident involving a large number of victimsinvolving a vehicle that drove into a crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street. There is 30 injured and ten dead“said the city's emergency authority in a statement.
The tragedy occurred in the French Quarter, a historic and festive place in the American city, on New Year's Eve. According to the American media CBS News, several witnesses declared having seen a truck rushing “high speed” in the crowd. They said the driver of the vehicle jumped out of his vehicle and then began firing a gun, prompting a police response.
