What makes the film so charming is the incredible tandem ofAndrew Garfield et Florence Pughwho play Tobias and Almut respectively. Two talents united on the big screen, who offer us here a breathtaking performance. They managed to create a real alchemy, which allows the viewer to go through all states, especially from laughter to tears.

Lee Braithwaite plays Jade, Almut's clerk, who will follow the latter in the craziest adventure of her life. Aoife Hinds (Skye), Adam James (Simon Maxson), Grace Delaney (Ella) and Douglas Hodge (Reginald Durand) complete the cast.

It's a bit like…

Never Forget and The Bear

Love in the Present is a clever mix of dramatic romance Never Forget and the culinary series, nominated numerous times for the Golden Globes, The Bear. Just like Never Forget, Love in the Present tells a love story of two people who are completely oppositebut which end up complementing each other. And there too, we see the entire journey of a romance, from its birth to the adventures it goes through, and the sacrifices to make to overcome them. There illness is also at the heart of this romancesince Almut is suffering from cancer.

And this heartbreaking love story is rhythmic by Florence Pugh's character's passion for cooking. Head of a brigade, Almut was born to be behind the stove. Thus, cooking plays a major role in Love in the Presentallowing the film to have a sustained pace, as is the case in The Bear.

Moreover, this art is a metaphor in the series. The culinary environment is a strict environment, where precision is important and everything must be under control. Which is not the case in the lives of the characters in The Bearand likewise in Love in the Present. Almut loves being in control, which is why she chose this profession. Unfortunately, she does not have control over her life, which has many unpleasant surprises in store for her that she cannot control.

The detail that changes everything?

Love in the Present plays with flashbacks in order to show the entire lives of its characters. We thus see the lives of Tobias and Almut before they met, allowing us to learn more about their character and to understand their choices and reactions when they are together. We see what they were like before Almut's illness turned their lives upside down, then how they deal with it during, and after, her cancer.

Almut's illness is also a detail that makes this romance unlike any other. Since we have been following this couple since their departure, we know their life plans. Cancer disrupts all their plans and we see how they try to achieve them despite this difficulty. We also have two points of view regarding the disease, that of the sick person and that of the person who supports themmaking this romance even more poignant.

Love in the Present releases in cinemas this January 1, 2025.
