In a thrilling first round of the holiday tournament, the Lincoln Lutheran men’s basketball team, ranked No. 2 in C-1, demonstrated its superiority by defeating Holdrege, ranked No. 9, with a score of 71-53. Man of the match was Braxton Glines, who scored an impressive 23 points to lead his team to victory.

Despite a hot start from the Dusters, who took an early lead after the first quarter, the Warriors regrouped and took the lead at the break with a crushing 43-23 advantage.

Moving forward, Lincoln Lutheran prepares to take on No. 5 B-ranked Platteview at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with the goal of clinching the league title.

In another game, Lincoln Pius X (ranked No. 7 in B) triumphed over St. Pius The Thunderbolts started strong, dominating the first quarter 23-11, and were led by Parker Kelly, who contributed 22 points to the victory.

Milford also had success, beating Silver Lake 63-44, with Isaac Roth and Landon Roth scoring 14 and 15 points, respectively. The Eagles are scheduled to play Lincoln Christian at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the final game of their holiday tournament.

On the girls’ side, the Lincoln Pius X Thunderbolts, ranked No. 2 in B, easily disposed of St. Pius Keeleigh Knobbe led the Thunderbolts with an impressive 18-point performance, while teammate Hannah Bedient added 14 points. Pius X (9-1) prepares to host No. 1 Omaha Skutt on Saturday.

The Milford girls also shined, outscoring Silver Lake 69-35. The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in C-1, were powered by Ava Roth and Izzy Yeackley, both scoring 15 points. Milford is scheduled to face No. 1-ranked Lincoln Christian at noon Tuesday.

On the wrestling front, Geniah Story shined at the Conestoga Invitational, improving his season record to 19-2 with a second-place finish in the 135-pound weight class. After pinning her first two opponents in quick succession, she won a 14-1 major decision in the semifinals but was ultimately defeated by Sofia Hoegemeyer of Millard West by pinfall in the final round.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Songer finished in sixth place in the 140-pound weight class, contributing to the Rockets’ team-high 37 points, which tied them for 14th place. Crete finished eighth overall with 110.5 points, thanks in large part to Ruby VanHorn’s remarkable second-place finish in the 115-pound weight class.
