Juventus-Fiorentina match stopped after racist insults

The Serie A match between Juventus and Fiorentina was temporarily interrupted due to racist insults directed at Dusan Vlahovic. An announcement was made over loudspeakers to end the incident.

The match between Juventus Turin and Fiorentina, counting for the 18th day of the Italian Championship, was briefly interrupted on Sunday after racist insults came from the stands targeting Serbian Juve striker Dusan Vlahovic. As too often since his arrival in Italy, the player was called a “gypsy” by opposing supporters.

Referee Maurizio Mariani stopped the match after seven minutes of play and called the two captains to tell them that the match was interrupted, while a message calling on spectators to stop their racist and discriminatory chants was broadcast in the stands of the Allianz Stadium.

Vlahovic very often targeted by Italian supporters

The two teams then met in the central circle, then the match resumed after an interruption of a few minutes. According to the DAZN platform, Fiorentina supporters uttered insults towards Vlahovic, already targeted by “Viola” ultras last season. “You are a gypsy” the fans shouted from the parking lot.

In November 2023, Fiorentina was sanctioned with the closure of a stand in its stadium for a suspended match due to racist chants targeting three Juventus players, including Vlahovic. Since leaving Fiorentina, his club from 2018 to 2022, Vlahovic, 24, has been targeted by Tuscan supporters who do not forgive him for joining Juve.
