Princess Kako of Japan celebrates her 30th birthday this Sunday, December 29, 2024. The second daughter of the heir to the Chrysanthemum Throne took part in a photoshoot in the garden of Akasaka Palace on a beautiful December day, the opportunity for the young woman to take stock of her year of work for the Imperial Household.

The imperial family has one more thirty-year-old, Princess Kako of Akishino, second daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko. Princess Kako has worked for the Imperial Household since finishing her studies. Princess Kako is celebrating her 30th birthday this December 29 and for the occasion, new photos have been shared by the Imperial Household.

Princess Kako has an older sister Mako, who since her marriage in 2021, lost her title and had to leave the imperial family. She now lives in New York with her husband. Crown Prince Fumihito, younger brother of Emperor Naruhito, also has a son, Prince Hisahito, who just came of age in September. Princess Kako works for the Imperial Household and will also have to stop her official commitments if she marries. Prince Hisahito, meanwhile, is expected to one day become Emperor of Japan.

Walk in red at Akasaka Palace for Princess Kako’s 30th birthday

Since April, Princess Kako has agreed to reduce her activities within the imperial family in order to work part-time for the Japan Federation of the Deaf. She now works there two days a week. Like her mother and sister, Princess Kako speaks sign language perfectly.

For her birthday, Princess Kako was filmed at the beginning of December during a walk in the gardens of Akasaka Palace. She wore a red coat and red earrings made of three small berries. Her outfit matched the trees and vegetation she admired on her walk that took her to a pond, then into a grove of tea tree bushes.

On the occasion of her birthday, Princess Kako took stock of this year, highlighting the two disasters that took place on the Noto Peninsula. In the first days of January 2024, the peninsula was hit by a fatal earthquake. In September, the region suffered deadly floods. Princess Kako declared that she “is deeply saddened by the considerable damage caused.” She remembers the testimonies she was able to hear when she “ had the opportunity to meet people affected by the disaster and hear from those involved in support services. » Emperor Naruhito’s niece also “expressed condolences to those who lost their lives” in other disasters during this year. “She expressed concern for those affected and expressed her sincere hope that they can live in peace.”

Princess Kako attended numerous events throughout the year, linked to education, disability, scouting, the hearing impaired, crafts, culture, history and even sport. Princess Kako also represented the imperial family abroad. It was she who was sent to Greece in May, on behalf of Emperor Naruhito, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Greece and Japan.
