Intercités N°5790 did not leave Briançon at 7:57 p.m. this Saturday, December 28, as initially planned. He will therefore not arrive at 7:53 a.m. at Paris-Austerlitz. Just before setting off, the train caught fire on the platform. It was the resistance of the heating system which caught fire, causing smoke to emerge in two wagons. The passengers of the two cars involved were evacuated and firefighters from the Briançon rescue center were able to intervene. There were no victims.
No stop at Gap
As these two cars were no longer roadworthy, they were removed. With the consequences of removing the stop at Gap station. Indeed, the train being full on this day of crossover, the SNCF is not able to board all the passengers with two missing cars. However, a bus has been requisitioned to transport passengers from Gap to Valence where they can board an Intercités towards Paris. At 10 p.m. this Saturday, Intercités 5790 left, 1 hour 30 minutes late.
A bad habit
Friday December 27, the Paris-Briançon train arrived at its destination more than five hours late. In the opposite direction, the same day, the Briançon-Paris never arrived. It broke down at L’Argentière-la-Bessée and could not be repaired despite the mechanic’s efforts, forcing all 116 passengers to sleep on board.
So many elements which give this night train the dishonorable title of “worst line in France” according to the regularity statistics published by the SNCF.
