A South Korean Jeju Air flight from Bangkok skidded off the runway and crashed into a fence at Muan Airport in southern South Korea. The accident, which occurred in still uncertain circumstances, caused the death of at least 28 people among the 175 passengers and six crew members on board.
The South Korean authorities are actively continuing rescue operations to find possible survivors among the debris of the plane. So far, three people have been rescued, according to the latest updates.
According to initial observations, a problem with the landing gear prevented the plane from landing correctly, leading to a deviation off the runway and a collision with a nearby fence. South Korean investigators are working to confirm this cause and determine whether other factors may have contributed to the accident.
Among the passengers were two Thai nationals, according to Yonhap. Their state of health remains unknown at this time.
Firefighters and emergency teams deployed on site managed to extinguish the fire caused by the impact, allowing rescue operations to continue in safer conditions.
