The choir of the Musique en Plaine school (Mep) of Caen the sea, based in Bourguébussouth of Caen (Calvados), did not expect to occur on a television setin front of thousands of spectators, and yet, it happened. This Friday, December 27, 2024, on France 3the show The best choir in France will be back on television and it’s the choir Heart of Mep of Caen la mer who will represent Normandy.
A 100% female choir
L’identity and strength of the choir reside in its exclusively female composition, 34 singers in all. This is what Caroline Géa, choir director, explains:
This was not wanted at the beginning. But at the audition, there were almost only women. Over time, it has truly become our strength, our identity.
Is it more difficult to sing only among women? What is certain is that it is challenging and that they take up the challenge hands down: “The choice of songs can be more complicated, because we don’t have no deep voices masculine. But it’s not a problem, we adapt and it’s great like that. There is really a unique energy,” underlines Caroline Géa.
They will sing two songs by Abba and Philippe Rombi
Upon seeing a social media post for the casting call, the choir immediately submitted his candidacy in October 2024. A few days later, the singers are selected andadventure begins. “ It was super fast. We were booked for the show in October and filming was in November. There was a lot of work, with joy and enthusiasm,” continues the choir director.
“It was absolutely extraordinary”
This Friday evening, viewers will be able to discover the choir performing two songs: “my mom» from Abba and «I’m dreaming of home» by Philippe Rombi. It is even closer to each other that the singers of the choir left the show:
I think we didn’t realize, we were super happy to represent Normandy and that people trusted us. After that, we are even more united and we want to work even more. It was absolutely extraordinary.
A choir to discover in the Caen area
The choir, which was present on December 23 in the giant Advent calendar organized by the city of Caen, will occur in 2025 on several occasions. First the February 2 at the Church of Bourguébus, then the June 26 for the Musique en Plaine school concert and finally, the June 29 as part of the Millennium of Caen.
Practical: The show can be seen this evening at 9:05 p.m. on France 3.
