Christopher Nolan will adapt Homer's The Odyssey

Homer's ancient epic poem tells the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, exploring themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning, and the struggle against divine will. The story includes iconic episodes such as the meeting with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, adventures that culminate with his reunion with his wife Penelope.

Although this would be the most high-budget adaptation of this text to date, the poem was previously adapted into the 1954 film Ulyssesdirected by Mario Camerini and played by
Kirk Douglasas well as in the 1997 miniseries
The Odysseydirected by Andrei Konchalovsky and played by Armand Assante. The last Odyssey books were also the main source for The Return, by Uberto Pasolini, which will be released in Italy at the beginning of 2025 and which stars Ralph Fiennes as Ulysses and Juliette Binoche as Penelope.

As previously announced, the latest film by Christopher Nolan will have as protagonists
Matt Damon, Anne
Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert
Pattinson, Charlize
Theron, Tom
Holland, Lupita
Nyong’o.
The release is scheduled for July 2026.
