Ezio Simonelli has been officially proclaimed president of the Lega Serie A. This is what we read in an official press release from the Lega Serie A itself which arrived yesterday evening.
“The Assembly of the National Professional League Lega Serie A, meeting on 20 December 2024, elected Ezio Maria Simonelli President”, writes the Lega Serie A in a note signed by Lega vice-president Luca Percassi, CEO of Atalanta.
This closes the issue linked to the eligibility of Simonelli, who yesterday, before the statement signed by Percassi, sent a certified email to all the councilors in which he confirmed his acceptance of the position as new president.
A new blow therefore to the maneuvers of Lazio owner Claudio Lotito and the now former Lega president Lorenzo Casini, who had tried to push through the nomination of the new number one by a League Council convened for next December 27th. However, the League Council not having veto powers at most could postpone the issue to the assembly, where however the positions are clear as highlighted in the latest vote with 14 clubs in favor of Simonelli.
Furthermore, Percassi's move to already appoint Simonelli will lead to the same accountant already being at the helm of the Council on 27 December: in this sense, therefore, even the majority that Lotito had in the Council with Casini as president will not be there. And if the owner of Lazio threatens legal action, Simonelli has also already said he is ready to turn to the federal prosecutor's office in the event that impediments arise that make it impossible for him to carry out his activity.
