In the super G in St. Moritz only Cornelia Hütter denied Lara Gut-Behrami the first success of the season. The Austrian skied the 1,823 meters of the Graubünden track in 1'15″18 and was just 0″18 behind the Ticino girl – who had already reached the podium twice in Beaver Creek – and the Italian Sofia by 0″33. Goggia, who thus completed the podium at the finish line of the Engiadina track. The 33-year-old from Comano showed great skill in the central part of the track, but some risks in the final stages cost her the tenths needed to take the victory.
Lindsey Vonn's highly anticipated return to the CdM circuit saw the American – who started 31st at the gate – arrive 14th at the finish line, “only” 1″18 behind, demonstrating how the “Speed Queen” is still competitive at the highest levels in six years since the last race.
The rest of the Swiss team did not particularly shine with only Corinne Suter who managed to stay under a second behind, obtaining a place in the top 10. The Swiss came tenth at 0″80, while Michelle Gisin arrived later ( +1”40), Delia Durrer (+1”77), Joana Hälen (+2”50) and Jasmina Suter (+2'94”). Tomorrow there will be a repeat of the second super G in the Engadine station.
