World premiere for Marie Schreiber in the World Cup Cyclocross a Holly. The Luxembourg champion triumphed for the first time in the most important event of the discipline, imposing herself at the end of a race dominated from start to finish, managing to achieve a full start to the finish line, forcing the others to fight for second position. Silver among the U23s at the recent European Championships, this brings the class of 2003 to a success of absolute prestige which confirms all their talent after last year they managed to get on the podium for the first time, at just twenty years old.
“I really have no words – he comments immediately after arrival – I still can't believe it. I made a good start, I was leading and suddenly there was a big gap. I expected the others to catch up to me, but when there were only two laps to go I thought: 'Fuck, I can really win'.” From then on, she focused solely on avoiding mistakes. “I was very nervous and I tried to make as few mistakes as possible, but I wasn't entirely successful – she admits – On the last lap I made a few more mistakes because I realized that I was really about to win”.
A day of great emotion for the 21-year-old, who upon arrival did not hide her tears after pointing to the sky with her fingers. “My dog died on Wednesday – explained the SD Worx-Protime representative – In the last few days I wasn't really happy. in me. I wanted to win for him. On the bike I managed to isolate myself, but I was able to concentrate, even though at the same time I was so nervous… I really didn't know what to expect. But I am very happy with this victory.”
She therefore closes her “difficult week” with a capital performance that projects her into a new dimension, mixing tears and joy: “Being in the lead from start to finish is something to be really proud of. Now I can say that I am among the best cross-country skiers, and it is an extraordinary thing to be able to say.”
