French President Emmanuel Macron came under fire from local residents on Thursday during his visit to the Mayotte archipelago devastated by Cyclone Chido, the strongest storm to hit the area in 90 years and which has caused at least 31 deaths and nearly 2,500 injured.
The president was booed in the town of Pamandzi, where several residents shouted “Resign!”, “You're talking nonsense!” and «Water!», denouncing the lack of action on the part of the Paris government.
In response to criticism from the crowd, Macron was unable to detail the measures taken to resolve the crisis in the area and lashed out at residents: «I am not the cyclone. I'm not responsible!
“If it weren't for France, you would be 10,000 times more in trouble,” the president responded. Adding: “There is nowhere in the Indian Ocean where people get as much help as here.”COPYRIGHT LASICILIA.IT © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
