The young woman attacks “the presumed next chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU)” who said he was “horrified by the idea that Germany should follow the example of Elon Musk and Javier Miley“.
Substantial no comment from Berlin. “This is not the first time Musk has commented on German politics on X. We take note of itbut we do not interpret it or evaluate it”, the government spokeswoman limited herself to saying, Christiane Hoffmanunderlining that “the freedom of expression it also applies to X”. To journalists’ questions about any consequences or risks of electoral interference, Hoffmann glossed over, however recalling the EU rules of the Digital Services Act to which X and the other tech majors are subject.
This is certainly not Musk’s first statement in favor of politicians far right. Just think about the support for Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini or his sympathies for the Argentine president Javier Miley.

“The European Commission and the Member States they no longer have to stand by and watch while i billionaires abuse the media and algorithms to influence elections and empower and normalize right-wing extremists. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, but is an attack on democracy.” The German green MEP writes it on X Erik Marquardt. “Musk, celebrated by some here, declares war on democracy. This man is one threat. Trump, Farage and now the AfD. Added to this is Putin’s interference. The erosion of our democracy is fueled from within and without. Consequences? For now, none”, writes the popular German MEP on X Dennis Radtke.
