Next Gen ATP Finals, Michelsen overtakes Basavareddy. Surprise Van Assche against Shang

Van Assche and Michelsen are the first to win a match in this edition of Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah. Both successes in four sets, in tight and balanced matches, won by the players who managed the balanced and tense moments better.

In the first match of this edition there was the first surprise with the success of Luca Van Assche over Shang Juncheng with the score 4-3(3) 2-4 4-1 4-3(5) in almost two hours of play. An extremely inspired version of the Frenchman who played extremely solidly, incisively in the exchange and often aggressive to put the Chinese player behind the pace.

The difference was made by the decisive points both in the first set and especially in the fourth, when the transalpine managed to come back from 0-2 and take everything to the tiebreak to win it. 11 out of 13 break points were canceled by the Frenchman who therefore managed to prevail thanks to a superior mental quadrature.

In the second match, Alex Michelsen did his part and came from behind to beat Nishesh Basavareddy in the American derby with a score of 2-4 4-3(5) 4-3(4) 4-2 in one hour and fifty-five minutes of play. A match with many ups and downs for Michelsen who struggled especially on serve thanks to the good aggressiveness of his opponent on the return, but he managed to lead the match in important moments such as from 1-2 and break down in the fourth.
