Chelsea forward Mychajlo Mudryk has failed a doping test.
The news provided by the sensational Daily Mail and then confirmed by those directly involved: the Ukrainian, in fact, was provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance during an anti-doping test.
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm that the Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk regarding an abnormal result from a routine urine test. Both the Club and Mykhailo fully support the FA’s testing program and all our players, including Mykhailo, are tested regularly. Mykhailo categorically confirmed that he had never knowingly used prohibited substances. Both Mykhailo and the Club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish the cause of the abnormal result. The Club will make no further comments on the matter” – is the official note from the club.
The player also released an official statement, in which he categorically denies using the prohibited substance voluntarily.
“I can confirm that I was informed that a sample provided to the FA contained a banned substance. This news came as a complete shock, as I have NEVER knowingly taken any banned substances or broken any rules. I am working closely with my team to understand how this could have happened. I know I haven’t done anything wrong and I remain confident that I will be able to return to the field soon. I cannot say anything else at this time due to the confidentiality of the proceedings, but I will do so as soon as possible.”
Coach Enzo Maresca, in recent days, had justified the absence of the 23-year-old, who has been out since November 28, by talking about health problems.
Mudryk, who moved from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea in January 2023 for a fee of around £88.5 million on an 8-year contract, again according to Daily Mailrisks a ban of up to four years, as happened in the past to Adrian Mutu and Paul Pogba.
