Like last year, the Château des Rohan de Saverne museum wanted to accompany the Christmas Fairies coordinated by the City by offering a temporary exhibition on the theme of festive tables from recent centuries, entitled “What a feast! “.
This visual but also olfactory exhibition entitled “What a feast! » will be visible until January 5 at the Château des Rohan de Saverne museum. The museum’s curator, Emmanuelle Thomann, wanted, through this exhibition, to bring a more gourmet coloring by showcasing the arts of the table over the centuries, by magnifying the art of entertaining on festive days. In a very beautiful way, five festive tables linked to a character from Saverne are presented.
This is how visitors will be able to discover the Gallo-Roman triclinium of the matron Bellatula, a medieval table that Albert of Bavaria was able to appreciate, in the 19th century the table of a local notable, Sieur Darcourt which highlights the Lunéville service, in the 20th century we enter the Weiss-Javal family where “Christmas had a taste of Europe” and to finish we find ourselves in an Alsatian stub with an illustrated Sarreguemines service by Loux.

The originality of this exhibition lies not only in its theme but in the desire to set these festive tables using objects belonging to the museum’s collections. Very rarely exhibited, these objects are not only presented but highlighted, contributing to the atmosphere, to the spirit of each table. “It is also an opportunity for us to collect the objects kept in our reserves from the inventory” confided Emmanuelle Thomann.
Finally, visitors can even try to discover an aromatic, a particular ingredient linked to the various periods presented, by putting their sense of smell to the test.
