The general assembly of the French Cycling Federationwhose federal headquarters is located in Ivry-sur-Seine in Val-de-Marne, was held on the weekend of December 7 and 8 at the University of Jussieu in Paris.
This major event for the FFC brought together 400 delegates and was marked by the election of Lydie Chénot as president of the federation, succeeding Martine Cano who has led it since 2016.
Originally from the South-West, Lydie Chénot first had a career in the Air and Space Force as an intelligence officer. Passionate about cyclingshe practices road cycling, mountain biking and gravel.
Lydie Chénot commits as a parent volunteer in a cycling school. Federal instructor and organizer of itinerant trips, she is fully involved in her club, the Cyclos du Bischenberg in Bischoffsheim (Alsace). After serving as secretary, she took over as president last November.
Making cycling more attractive and modern
Son voluntary and associative commitment reflects its attachment to the values of sharing, conviviality and surpassing oneself. Winner of the second promotion of the Club of 300 women leaders of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, she embodies a strong desire to modernize and promote cycle tourism to guarantee its development.
“Cycle tourism is a practice that unites us, accessible to all and beneficial for social bonds and well-being. My journey, from practicing mountain biking to managing my club, convinced me of the importance of having a strong, inclusive federation that responds to societal issues. Taking the presidency of the French Cycle Tourism Federation is a new blank page to write. The objective is to make cycling, in all its forms, more attractive and modernwhile responding to current environmental and social challenges”, comments Lydie Chénot, newly elected head of the FFC.
Three ambitious priorities
THE three ambitious priorities of Lydie Chénot for her mandate consist of:
- Affirm the visibility of the traditional and new activities of the Federation as well as its values;
- Strengthen the FFC’s interventions with institutions in order to improve the safety of cyclists;
- Intensify its actions to fully integrate cycling into public mobility, inclusion and development policies.
“I am determined to breathe new life into and to make the Federation the key player in cycling in France, serving all practitioners and communities”, declares the lucky lady.
