A thirty firefighters were mobilized this Monday, December 16, early in the evening, on a fire in an underground parking lot in the Trois-Cités district, rue de l’Acadie, in Poitiers. Around 7 p.m., firefighters, who came from five emergency centers, were able to enter and carry out reconnaissance operations and ventilate the premises.
The flames did not cause any casualties. Residents left on their own or, for some, confined themselves to their homes. According to firefighters, the fire started from two tires among around fifty “scattered” in the parking lot which caught fire: it could be an action by homeless people who took refuge in place, according to our information, without intending to do harm.
The day before, Sunday December 15, another fire 750 meters away was found to be of criminal origin : four fires broke out in front of and in a building on rue du Commerce, near Place de France. On the nearby sidewalk, 6 shopping carts and a scooter were also found burned. A 75-year-old woman had to be hospitalized due to smoke poisoning.
