The Sabena Technics group and the SEM Pôle aéronautique Jean-Sarrail in Istres have just signed a lease which officially binds them.

The mayor of Istres and president of the SEM Pôle aéronautique Jean-Sarrail welcomed the signing of this lease with Sabena Technics which marks “an important step for the reconversion of the site started ten years ago”.
Sabena Technics will set up shop in the “Mercure hangar”. “DIn this magnificent hangar, thanks to our know-how: we will be able to carry out aircraft maintenance visits in addition to those that the Air and Space Force technicians will carry out in their hangars with a few hundred meters from here. We will also make changes to standard 2 a little later, which will generate additional jobs. », detailed Philippe Rochet, president of Sabena Technics.
“A major breakthrough”
For the city of Istres, this is “a major step forward in the installation of the Airbus A-330 MRTT Phénix fleet on the BA 125. This proximity was the whole point of a ” co-location “a guarantee of efficiency for maintaining long-term operational conditions for multi-role tanker aircraft based in Istres”. After essential work to bring the building and its surroundings up to standard, the first Airbus A-330 Phénix should be able to undergo overhaul at the end of 2025, specifies the city.
The arrival of Sabena Technics was possible, according to the city, thanks to “the exemplary understanding between all public and private decision-makers, whether the State, via the Ministry of Defense, the Southern Region, the Council department of Bouches-du-Rhône and the AMP Metropolis, the City of Istres on the one hand, Airbus Defense & Space on the other”.
