From January 1, 2025, the French will have to pay more to send their mail and parcels. La Poste announced an average increase of 6.8% in its prices, justified by inflation and the continued decline in mail volume. This measure, communicated last July, is part of a difficult economic context where many sectors are seeing their prices increase. La Poste justifies this increase by two main factors, namely the drop in mail volume. Indeed, with the rise of digital communications, letter sending has fallen drastically in recent years.

But also l’inflation. Like many sectors, La Poste's operating costs have increased, in particular due to rising energy prices and wages, as Service-public.fr explains. However, French households already seem to have reduced their postal spending. According to the Service-public.fr website, in 2024, a household spends on average €29 per year at postal costs, against €48 in 2015. This expenditure should further decrease by 3% in 2025despite the increase in prices, reflecting less use of postal services.

What are the new stamp prices?

The most commonly used stamps recorded notable increases:

  • Green letter : the price goes from €1.29 to €1.39, an increase of 7.7%.
  • Letter services plus : the price increases from €2.99 to €3.15.
  • Registered letter (20 g) : from €5.36 to €5.74.
  • International letter (20 g) : from €1.96 to €2.10.
