Tino Chrupalla, co-chair of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, believes that Russia has won the war against Ukraine, reports Die Welt. He called on the country’s government to recognize this fact and take steps to deal with it.
According to the latest polls, the AfD party garners enough votes to become the second largest party in the Bundestag, Germany’s federal parliament. However, other political forces exclude any cooperation with this party.
“Russia won this war. Reality has caught up with those who claim to want to give Ukraine a chance to win,” Chrupalla said in a conversation with journalists. Deutsche Welle reports that he also expressed his belief that the German government must take a strong stance to end the Russian-led war, potentially through a peace deal that would benefit Moscow.
At the same time, Chrupalla acknowledged that his party was ready to take into account the Kremlin’s position, even on issues such as the actions of NATO, of which Russia is not a member. “The defense community must take into account and respect the interests of all European countries, including those of Russia. If NATO cannot guarantee this, Germany will have to reconsider how useful this bloc is for us,” Chrupalla said.
He also claimed that he considered some of his party members’ proposals to leave the EU as a maximum demand and raised the idea of replacing the EU with another “economic community and a community of interests” . “Before leaving, there should be a clear agreement on the creation of a new structure. The same goes for NATO,” he added.
Previous reports revealed that Rheinmetall, Germany’s largest defense contractor, was collaborating with US software company Auterion to develop a unified software platform that would allow Ukraine’s military to more effectively integrate and manage multiple types of drones.
The partnership between Germany and the United States aims to create a common operational architecture that allows drones from different manufacturers to communicate and operate seamlessly.
