For several days now, Métropole TPM has been carrying out work on the crossroads located at the intersection of Route des Gendarmes d'Ouvéa, Avenue Marcel-Dassault and Chemin de Daniel. An intervention awaited by the residents of the district because it aims, among other things, to strengthen fire protection in this very urbanized sector.
As the Metropolis indicates, it is indeed a question of renewing the drinking water network in order, not only to “fight against leaks”, but also to install a pipeline capable of supplying fire hydrants to which firefighters can connect.
Until now, the water network here did not have sufficient pressure to deliver a flow rate of 60m3/h for two hours, as required by regulations. Since 2017, the latter has also provided that any home must be located less than 200m from a fire hydrant with a compliant flow rate.
Urban planning projects made easier
If it exposed several dozen local residents to difficulties in the event of a fire breaking out in the area, this situation also generated administrative blockages. Individuals had been refused planning permission precisely on the grounds that they were located more than 200m from a regulatory fire hydrant (our edition of 08/16/24).
Contacted by Var-morningthe TPM water and sanitation department also indicates that new fire hydrants will be installed at – or near – the Marcel-Dassault crossroads, Gendarmes d'Ouvéa, chemin de Daniel. It is also specified that the number of homes located less than 200m from these compliant poles, and which could “benefit” from them in the event of a fire, is estimated “about fifty houses”.
Started last week, work on the intersection is expected to continue until December 20.
Two phases of work
On site, vehicle circulation is maintained and regulated by traffic lights and/or autonomous construction lights. A second phase of work is announced from January 6 to the beginning of March 2025, this time on Chemin de la Donicarde in order, again, to renew the pipeline and fight against leaks (at the same time, GRDF must also resize its networks ).
In total, the community is investing 330,000 euros including tax in this double operation which should be followed by the resurfacing of the road surface on Chemin de la Donicarde.
