A spectacular fire ravaged a home located rue du Saut du Loup, in Grand-Lucé, on the afternoon of Saturday December 14, 2024. The accident occurred while a man was trying to light his fireplace in using a wick. Unfortunately, it fell on a nearby armchair, starting a violent fire which quickly spread throughout the house.
A vain attempt to control the flames
According to France Bleu, Pascal Dupuis, mayor of the town, described the desperate efforts of the nonagenarian to put out the fire: “He tried to smother the flames with a blanket, but it caught fire. He then used a fire extinguisher, but it wasn't enough. » The fire, fueled by the paneling of the house, quickly intensified.
Mobilization of firefighters for a large-scale fire
Emergency services intervened in large numbers shortly after the alert. No less than 28 firefighters and nine vehicles were deployed to control the flames. Despite their efforts, the house was completely destroyed. “Only the walls remain, all the windows have disappeared. The owners lost everything,” said Pascal Dupuis, who went to the scene of the disaster.
A limited human toll but a profound trauma
The owner, slightly burned, was transported to Saint-Calais hospital with his wife. The victims, shocked, found temporary refuge with their neighbors before being taken care of by their daughter. According to witnesses, “everything burst into flames in an instant”.
