In a speech delivered Sunday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took stock of recent regional developments, affirming that his country is “changing the Middle East” as he promised a year ago.
“Syria is not the same Syria, Lebanon is not the same Lebanon, Gaza is not the same Gaza, and the leader of the axis of evil – Iran – is not the same Iran,” the Prime Minister said, referring to the impact of Israeli actions in the region.
Regarding Syria, Netanyahu stressed that Israel had “no interest in confronting it”, while recalling the hostile past of this country which “allowed Iran to arm Hezbollah through its territory”. In a matter of days, he said, Israel “destroyed the capabilities that the Assad regime had built over decades” to neutralize any potential threat.
The Prime Minister welcomed the interruption of arms supply routes to Hezbollah, citing the words of the organization’s secretary general, Naim Kassem, who recognized this loss. “These actions are further proof of the grave damage we have inflicted on the entire Iranian axis,” he added.
Netanyahu also issued a direct warning to Hezbollah and Iran: “We will continue to act against you to prevent you from harming us, in all areas and at all times.” He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to preventing the rearmament of Hezbollah, calling it a “continuing test” for his country.
The Prime Minister also revealed that he had discussed with Trump “the need to achieve victory”, while recognizing that challenges persist in the face of Iran, its “bloody proxies” and other potential threats in a “reality dynamic that changes rapidly. “I discussed all of this last night with my friend, US President-elect Donald Trump. It was a very friendly, very warm and very important conversation. We talked about the need to complete Israel’s victory and we We also spoke at length about the efforts we are making to free our hostages. I would like to point out here that the less information we disclose in this case, the more chance we give it of success.
