One thing is certain, Angélique Angarni-Filopon, Miss France 2025, break the codes. The newly elected Miss Martinique was crowned on the night of this Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Futuroscope. And his victory is historic. We explain why.
First Miss thirty-year-old
Angélique Angarni-Filopon does not want to be defined according to her age – 34 years old. This is what she reminded the press before her election (since she was the oldest candidate in the promotion), then at a press conference, shortly after her coronation.
“I am constantly reminded of my age, I believe I am well preserved,” said Miss Martinique, just crowned Miss France, at a press conference just after her victory.
Obviously I don’t want people to characterize me based on my short hair or my age. Because one and the other absolutely do not define me.
And yet, the new Miss France 2025, first thirty-year-old in the history of Miss, makes a point of remembering that there is no age to be Miss France, and proudly wears her age difference. The young woman had already entered the competition several years ago.
“In 2011, a young woman aged 20 finished first runner-up in the Miss Martinique competition. Today, it is this same young woman of 34 years who stands before you to once again represent Martinique, its diaspora as well as all the women who were told one day that it was too late” , said Miss France 2025 when she spoke during the ceremony.
Her beauty pageant victory was made possible by an overhaul of the regulations two years ago. Under pressure from critics, the organizers lifted any age limit – previously set at 24 years – and opened applications to married women and mothers.
“I hope to pave the way for these Misses”she replied in an interview with Télé-Loisirs questioning her about her desire to open the way for women who could be elected at 40 or 50 years old.
First Miss Martinique
Besides age, the region is also a first in the history of Miss. Never has a candidate from Martinique brought the crown home.
“It is an honor to stand before you. When I won the Miss Martinique competition, I told the people of Martinique that we were going to do it together. And we did it together! THANKS ! », Reacted the young woman in front of an audience of viewers, just after the announcement of her victory, on Futuroscope.
And yet, Miss Martinique are often at the foot of the podium. They have been 1st runner-up three times (2021, 2015 and 1997), 2nd runner-up once (1987) and 3rd runner-up twice (2022, 2012). In all, eleven candidates had ranked from 1st to 6th runner-up during previous editions.
There is almost no region left to have never won a title, apart from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Wallis-et-Futuna, (regions which were not represented this year in the competition) Saint-Martin and Saint -Barthélémy, and Mayotte.
In a first interview given to our colleagues from Leisure TV this Sunday morning, the day after her coronation, Angélique Angarni-Filopon said she hoped to be “a pioneer”.
Above all, I hope to be a beautiful message of hope, a beautiful message of courage and perseverance, that’s what it’s all about. Touches all cultures. Reach both men and women. It’s very important to me and it’s a source of pride to have two firsts under your belt.
Second Miss with Short Hair
Angélique Angarni-Filopon does not innovate only because of her age and her region of origin. She also has short hair, just like Ève Gilles, her predecessor. The young woman, originally from Nord-Pas-de-Calais, stood out after being crowned Miss France 2024, because it had been a long time since we had seen a Miss with short hair. And it’s very rare: apart from her, no other candidate sported a pixie cut in 2024.
Ève Gilles therefore cleared the ground for Angélique Angarni-Filopon, who also sports a short haircut. If it is a little less rare in the history of the competition now, it remains rare among the class of 2025, once again equipped with only one candidate with short hair.
“No limits”
But Angélique Angarni-Filopon does not want to be defined according to these differences, although she thinks it is “normal” for this to be said, at the start of her reign, as she confided to Télé-Loisirs.
At first it will be normal. The media and the French will have to get to know me. And then you will see that it is energy that will take over and no longer age or haircut.
And the Miss, who hopes to pave the way for different women, concludes: “ There is no age, there is no limit. »
