Burned to the respiratory tract, a 75-year-old lady is still in absolute emergency at the Poitiers hospital center this Sunday, December 15.

Alerted at 6 a.m., firefighters intervened to control a fire in progress in a building located at 14 rue du commerce, in the Trois Cités district of Poitiers. Despite the intervention of around sixty men equipped with three vans and two ladders, five apartments were destroyed by the flames.

A total of twenty residents of the building were evacuated by firefighters. Seven of them had to be hospitalized, one in a state of shock, five inconvenienced by the fumes, and this 75-year-old lady whose condition health was deemed “in absolute emergency” by the SMUR doctor who diagnosed respiratory tract burns.

In the morning, some residents were able to return to their apartment located on the other side of the stairwell, on the other side of the building.

Among the five apartments destroyed, those on the upper two floors were unoccupied.

Three people will have to be rehoused.

Traces of a scooter and charred shopping carts were found at the bottom of the building, at the foot of the column of burned apartments. Their ignition would be the cause of the disaster. To determine this, uAn investigation was opened by the public prosecutor’s office for “criminal damage”, entrusted to the Poitiers police station, according to our colleagues from France Bleu Poitou.

In the morning, around forty firefighters were still on site to secure the site and ensure that no new fire broke out.
