Speaking to BFMTV, the mayor of Mamoudzou indicates that “the roads are completely cut and it is almost impossible to get through”. “The technical services worked until nightfall because there was no electricity, we could not put the agents in danger,” he specifies.
Ambdilwahedou Soumaila explains that since early this morning, teams have been mobilized to clear the roads “to move relief supplies and transport aid to the 37 sites referenced to accommodate people.”
“We will need water and food and they will have to be transported,” he adds, indicating that the shanty towns of the archipelago “are totally devastated”.
