MISCELLANEOUS FACTS – Drama on the road. Four Sudanese, including a 4-month-old girl, died in a traffic accident this Saturday, December 14 near Vesoul, in Haute-Saône, AFP learned from the prefecture, confirming information from France 3 Franche-Comté .
The collision occurred on Saturday around 1:55 p.m., on national road 19 towards Lure, in the commune of Frotey-lès-Vesoul. “The weather conditions were good. The car veered off course and collided with the heavy goods vehicle which tried to avoid it,” according to the prefecture cited by France 3.
The victims’ car, a black Audi A3, deviated from its trajectory for a reason still unknown, and hit a truck arriving opposite, registered in Poland and driven by a Belarusian, the prefecture also detailed.
Dead instantly
The victims are a couple and their child, who had an address in Haute-Saône, and a passenger who resided in a home welcoming migrants in Vesoul. The woman was born in 1999, the two men in 1997 and 1988 respectively. The three adults died instantly, and the four-month-old girl could not be saved by emergency services.
Two other cars were damaged in the collision, but without serious injuries. “We were in a straight line, in a sector with calm speeds. This is not an accident-prone place. It’s very sad”reacted the mayor of Frotey-lès-Vesoul, Christophe Tary, to France 3.
Since the start of the year, 2,926 people have died on the roads in France according to Road Safety data, an increase of 2% compared to the same period last year.
