Bart Verhaeghe achieves impressive results at Club Brugge. All he needs is one accomplishment to, according to Franky Van der Elst, be considered one of the greatest leaders in the history of our football.
Last season, Vincent Mannaert left his post at Club Bruges and was entitled to a tifo in his image at Jan Breydel. A practice which should not become a habit, according to Franky Van der Elst, who believes that this should be reserved for players. But Bart Verhaeghe could well also be in the spotlight when he leaves.
“He not only took Club Bruges to the next level: he also played a big role in Belgian football. Even when he no longer had an official role within the federation, he was sought after, by example in the search for a new coach”, points out Van der Elst in the Newspaper. Although it should also be noted that Verhaeghe… hoped to attract Tedesco to Bruges initially.
The results of the president of Blauw & Zwart, however, are undeniable. There is only one thing missing: “The missing piece is this new stadium for the Club. It is a crucial project to allow Bruges to take another step forward,” believes Franky Van der Elst.
With a stadium finally modernized, the Club could dominate the competition even more. “It has sometimes been said that the Club could one day become ‘too big’ for Belgium. These are risky statements, because the situation can quickly change. But if this stadium sees the light of day, the Club could really dominate Belgian football for a moment”, recognizes the former Bruges resident.
“If Bart Verhaeghe succeeds in this area, he will be among the greatest leaders in the history of our football in my eyes. Sometimes he makes statements that I don’t really find necessary, but his results are exceptional,” concludes Van der Elst.
