Île-Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) is in mourning. This Friday, December 13, 2024, the town hall announced the death of Abdelkader Dahou, municipal councilor responsible for youth. In its press release, the city specifies that the 40-year-old elected official died in the night from Thursday to Friday after being “hit by a vehicle a few days earlier”. The Parisian reveals that the accident took place last Monday, early in the evening on the bridge which connects his town to Saint-Denis station. An investigation is underway to understand the circumstances of this tragedy.

Rain of tributes on social networks

With his wheelchair (he suffered from brittle bone disease) and his smile, Abdelkader Dahou was become “an emblematic figure” in the small town of Seine-Saint-Denis. “All Îlodionysians have, one day or another, encountered his silhouette, his attentive gaze raised towards you and his magnificent smile which made the little annoyances of the sudden day so futile,” writes the town hall. “Above all, we are losing a wonderful person and a friend,” she adds.

On social networks, the announcement of his death sparked a wave of emotions from residents who all shared their little words to greet the elected official. The mayor of Saint-Denis, Mathieu Hanotin, greeted on Facebook a person who had “marked the spirits by his exceptional character, by his warmth, his generosity and his resilience […] He will leave a big void in the municipal team of which he was a valuable member.”
