Murder of Stéphanie Di Vincenzo in Hayange: her boyfriend sentenced to life imprisonment with 22 years of security

On the night of May 23 to 24, 2021, Stéphanie Di Vincenzo, 22, was killed with several stab wounds by her boyfriend, Liridon Berisa, in Hayange.

The scene took place in front of witnesses, including the couple’s three-year-old daughter.

Tried before the Assize Court, the latter was sentenced this Friday to the maximum sentence.

It is a feminicide which sparked a controversy due to the accumulation of several incidents. Before the victim’s death, the police had already intervened ten times at the couple’s home. The young woman had also filed a complaint a few months earlier, but this complaint had not been transmitted to the public prosecutor’s office.

This Friday, three and a half years after the tragedy, the Moselle Assize Court sentenced Liridon Berisa to the maximum penalty, life imprisonment with a safety period of 22 years, for the femicide of his partner, Stéphanie Di Vincenzo in May 2021 in Hayange.

Threatening towards the victim’s family when the verdict is announced

The murderer, now aged 26, had stabbed his partner several times in the street, in front of neighbors and under the eyes of their three-year-old granddaughter. The accused, with a volcanic temperament, excluded from the courtroom several times on Wednesday and Thursday, was once again insulting, provocative and threatening towards the victim’s family when the verdict was announced.

So much so that an uncle of the victim present in the front row with the family shouted “Death penalty! Death penalty!”

The victim escaped bleeding through the window

On the night of May 23 to 24, 2021, a violent altercation took place between Liridon Berisa and the victim at their home in Hayange, a former industrial city in the north of the Moselle.

Stéphanie Di Vincenzo, 22, escaped through the window, weakened and bloodied. Several witnesses saw her running towards the police station, located 40 meters from the home. But the police station was closed at the time. Liridon Berisa caught up with her and stabbed her several times, in front of neighbors and under the eyes of their three-year-old daughter. He then threw his weapon in a trash can and fled.

The day before the tragedy, Liridon Berisa had ripped off his electronic bracelet without it triggering the slightest alarm. An inspection mission, dispatched subsequently, had not noted “no professional misconduct in the decisions taken” and had estimated that the bracelet had suffered “unexplained malfunction”.
